Welcome to Traverse Audio! My name is Brent Smith, I'm currently based in Nashville. I have extensive experience with recording, editing, and mixing, as well as classical and modern training in bass and composition. I've put together a brief history of who I am and where I come from as a musician, and I am endlessly grateful if you've even made it this far.

I've studied several instruments and genres throughout the years, though most notably, I started out as a percussionist in school, and developed an intense love for music during that time. From 6th grade until I graduated high school, I intently studied drums and percussion, and picked up bass in the later years before moving off to college. 

At Murray State University, I majored in string bass and music business. I studied music theory and jazz extensively during this time, and I played in a variety of different genres, including rock, metal, hardcore, jazz, folk, country, classical, and many variations between. I joined my main band, Little By Little, in 2016, and by now we have gigged together hundreds of times, and have a few recording releases. During this time period, I also dove headfirst into the production of music. I had dabbled earlier in life, but mostly just because I wanted my high school metal core band to be famous, and we couldn't afford to PAY someone!  I was quickly able to learn and was selected to help develop a recording techniques program at the university that ultimately became a minor degree path at Murray State. I finished my degree in 2019 with a B.S. in Music Business.

In the years after college, I have built several iterations of a home studio. If you're a musician, then you understand how much we often have to be extremely adaptable, work with what we have, and often hop into our rag-tag spirit and learn new skills so we can progress our journey. Traverse is very much a build your own studio, but with a couple blue-collar day jobs under my belt, I've been able to build a studio I love to create in.
